Welcome to my blog about Autism Awareness, Acceptance and Understanding

Hey, my name is Ja'Qkia. I am a dedicated wife and mom of 3 amazing humans. I currently reside in Columbus, OH. I am a foodie, former educator, creative, caregiver, parent advocate, and lover of pizza with pineapples, and anything with buttercream frosting. I am the creator of this blog and my husband and I are the co-founders of Spectrum Spa and Sensory Center Inc.

My 14 year old is neurotypical and my youngest two children are neurodivergent. They are both diagnosed with Level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder and a few other disabilities that I will discuss separately in other posts.

African American family of 5 posing for a photo on the porch. From left to right, woman is wearing a yellow dress with an updo hairstyle that is purple with a sunflower in her hair. The teenage girl is wearing a tan dress and has paprika colored braided extensions. The younger girl is wearing a white dress and white shoes with two ponytails. The toddler sized boy is wearing a yellow graphic tee shirt with navy blue suspenders and bowtie with navy blue shorts and white casual sneakers. The man is wearing a pale yellow, short sleeve collar shirt with navy blue shorts and white casual sneakers.
"Summer, summer, summertime"

I love spending time with my family, discovering new sensory friendly spaces and sharing resources with other families while pushing for policy reform.

A Double Shot of Autism is my personal journey through Autism as their mother and caregiver, an advocate for them and others; my joys, their strengths and our opportunities to grow and learn from each other with LOVE, awareness, ACCEPTANCE and UNDERSTANDING!

It is my hope that with this blog and through healthy conversation, we can go beyond awareness and move toward autism acceptance.
